Transportation

The Lincoln-Way Area Special Education Transportation department is responsible for the operation of approximately 65 school buses. We actively transport approximately 500 students from Districts 114, 122, 157C, 159, 161 and 210. Our mission is to provide the safest and most economically responsible transportation to the students of the Lincoln-Way area.

The school bus is the safest form of ground travel in the world. Over the years Lincoln-Way Area Special Education Transportation has maintained an excellent safety record and reputation in the community, the County, and the State. This is due in part to the high standards we have always set for our drivers and staff. By keeping our standards high and nurturing a cooperative, team-spirit type of atmosphere, we are confident that a highly successful, safe and efficient transportation system will continue for years to come.

If you need any assistance or have questions regarding transportation please call 815-485-7611 during the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. In the event of an emergency after hours please contact Dave Armbrecht, Transportation Supervisor, at 708-612-3283.

The pick-up process for transportation is as follows:

1. The bus will pull up to the house and beep the horn, if possible.
2. The driver will wait for the student up to 3 minutes after arrival at the house.
3. If your child does not come out after 3 minutes the driver will leave and continue on with the route.
4. The staff in the office will log that your child didn't ride the bus to school.
5. If your child is a "no show" 3 times in a row, the office staff will call the appropriate school official to determine if we need to discontinue or temporarily suspend transportation.

Extra items to note;

• If you know your child will not be riding the bus, please call the office at 815-485-7611 to inform us of your child's absence.
• When you call, please tell us if your child will not ride in the AM, PM or all day.

1. The bus will pull up to the house and look for a parent in order to drop off your child unless otherwise noted in the IEP.
2. If no one is home to accept your child the driver will radio in and the office will call the home as well as the listed emergency contacts.
3. If no one can be reached to accept your child, he or she will be returned to school. Students who are transported to and from private facilities will be taken to the District Office of their resident district. The administration will continue to attempt to contact you during this time.
